The Subclass 491- Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa is a provisional visa which means that this visa once granted is a preliminary stage towards the second stage which is the Permanent Skilled Regional Visa Subclass 191. The permanent visa Subclass 191 will commence on 16 November 2022.
This visa has two streams namely the state/territory government-sponsored OR the designated eligible relative sponsored. This means that when you apply, you will need to either be nominated or sponsored by a state or territory or your relative living in the designated area of Australia.
States and Territories have varying requirements and standards. It is best to do your research and decide where you want to settle.

If you will be sponsored by an eligible relative, your relative must be:
โ 18 years old or older
โ usually resident in a designated area of Australia
โ be an Australian citizen, an Australian permanent resident, or an eligible New Zealand citizen

โ a child or step-child
โ a brother, sister, adoptivebrother, adoptive sister, step-brother or step-sister

To Successfully apply for a Skilled Work Regional (Provisional)ย Visa - Subclass 491, you must:
1. Have an occupation on relevant skilled occupation list
2. Have a suitable skills assessment for your nominated occupation - to get a skills assessment, you will need to approach the relevant assessing authority for ย ย ย ย your occupation. Once you have it, bear in mind that it is only valid for 3 years.
3. Received an invitation to apply โ to receive an invitation, our must-have submitted an EOI (Expression of Interest)
4. Meet the points test โ the pass mark is 65 but the likelihood of you getting an invitation is higher when you achieve a score higher than 65. ย To date, 80-95 ย ย ย ย points get an invitation quite quickly.
