Student Visa and Subclass 485
The Department of Home affair has announced that international students will be eligible for the second Temporary Graduate Visa.
If you will study in the regional areas from the Year 2021,Australia will grant you another Subclass 485 that will allow you to stay for one or two more years in Australia depending on the category you belong.
1. Holder of Temporary Graduate Visa (post student workstream)
2. Graduated from a regional education institution; and
3. Lived in regional Australia whilst holding the first Temporary Graduate Visa.
Category 1 – is composed of ‘Major Cities’ of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – living or studying in these cities will not receive any regional incentives – which means that there is no 2nd Temporary Graduate Visa will not be available to those who studied in the schools in these 3 major cities.
Category 2 – is composed of ‘Cities and Major Regional Centres’ of Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Canberra, Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, Wollongong/Illawarra, Geelong and Hobart – this means that International graduates who studied and live in these areas will be eligible for an additional one year on a 2ndSubclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa
Category 3 – is composed of ‘Regional Centres and Other Regional Areas’ – International graduates who studied and lived in these areas will be eligible for an additional 2 years on a second Temporary Graduate Visa.
Australia is serious at promoting the regional area to boost diversity and prosperity in regional Australia whilst helping to ease the growing infrastructure pressures in the major cities.
1. International graduates who studied at the regional campus of a metropolitan university will also be eligible.
2. YOU can use the 2nd TGV extension to complete the work experience requirement for subclass 482 and Subclass 494 or other skilled visas
If you are planning to study in Australia, the better option is to study in the regional areas specifically in the cities in Category 2 (‘Cities and Major Regional Centres’ of Perth, Adelaide, the Gold Coast, the Sunshine Coast, Canberra, Newcastle/Lake Macquarie, Wollongong/Illawarra, Geelong and Hobart ) because it will give you an additional 1 year on top of the 2 years standard graduate visa. However, the BEST choice is to study in category 3 –regional centres and other regional areas as it will give you 2 more years of stay in the regional area on a 2nd TPG visa.
