Australian citizenship is open for Permanent residents or New Zealand citizens, persons 60 years or over, and those born overseas with an Australian parent. One of the most common confusions in determining whether one is eligible for citizenship is the period of residency in Australia.

1) living in Australia on a valid visa for the past 4 years
2) a permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen for the past 12 months
3) away from Australia for no more than12 months in total in the past 4 years, including no more than 90 days in total in the past 12 months
To further determine your eligibility,you will need to calculate your days in Australia and your days outside of Australia.
Some exemptions to the residence requirement apply.
